The Mindful Mom Method

with Dr Elsa du Toit

Every day, women and even their doctors  ask me the same hard questions:

“Is my medication safe during pregnancy?”

“Are there alternatives I should try first?”

“Who should I believe when opinions and advice conflict?”

“What about studies that warn of risks & how do I make sense of them?”

The truth is, there’s no simple yes or no. That’s why risk assessment matters.

It’s about understanding your unique situation, weighing the benefits and risks, and making informed choices with confidence.

That’s exactly what we do inside The Mindful Mom Method cut through the noise, give you the facts and help you feel steady in the decisions that affect you and your baby.

This is your safe space to learn, ask and prepare so you can move forward without fear.

I see you.
I see the way you’re thinking about joining us… but you’re hesitating.
Maybe you’re worried about what others will think.
Maybe you’re telling yourself you should just be able to “handle it” on your own.

But I want to tell you that this is a safe space for strong women like us who want more for ourselves and for our families.

Because a strong mom is the backbone of any healthy home.

Now you can learn in the comfort of your own home, own time, own place!

Treatment should start with prevention

Let’s be honest anyone can experience Postnatal Depression.

It doesn’t mean you’re weak.

It doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

It simply means you’re human.

Some moms may be more vulnerable than others, but no one is immune. That’s why waiting until things fall apart is no longer good enough.

At the moment, most healthcare systems are built around treating mental illness after it’s already taken hold. But what if we could shift that model entirely?
What if women were supported before they reach breaking point?

The three layers of prevention:
  1. Primary Prevention for every woman.
  2. Secondary Prevention for those at higher risk.
  3. Tertiary Prevention for moms already facing challenges.

Because when women are empowered before crisis hits, everything changes - Families are stronger. Babies are nurtured. Mothers stay whole.

Mindful Moms Live

(Includes the full Foundations program)

Small groups. Direct guidance. Structured thinking. This is not passive learning. It is supported application.

Designed for women planning pregnancy, currently pregnant or postpartum, especially those living with a mental health condition.

Session 1: Integrating ARC - your questions, Your Context

Bring your questions. Bring what felt confusing. Bring what felt overwhelming.

We will:

  • Apply the ARC framework to your personal situation

  • Reflect on your own risk and resilience factors

  • Clarify what feels unclear

  • Strengthen your ability to make grounded decisions

Session 2: Mood & Anxiety in Pregnancy & Postpartum

When are emotions expected — and when are they a sign you need support?

We’ll explore:

  • The spectrum from normal adjustment to clinical illness

  • Depression, anxiety, and related symptoms in pregnancy and after birth

  • How to recognise early warning signs

  • How to reduce fear while staying appropriately vigilant

The goal is clarity, not alarm.

Session 3: Antidepressants in Pregnancy — What Does the Evidence Actually Say?

Fear often comes from fragmented information.

In this session, we will:

  • Review what we know (and don’t know) about antidepressants in pregnancy

  • Understand how to interpret risk data

  • Discuss common misconceptions

  • Learn how to approach medication decisions with structure rather than panic

You will leave with a more grounded understanding of how risk–benefit decisions are made.

Session 4: Protecting Your Mental Health — Prevention in Practice

Mental health care is not only about treatment. It is also about prevention.

We will focus on:

  • Strengthening protective factors

  • Preserving stability if you live with an existing diagnosis

  • Practical strategies to reduce relapse risk

  • Building a sustainable plan for pregnancy and postpartum

This session helps you move from reactive decision-making to proactive care.
